From our studies this year, we know our relationship with Christ overflows to others in our lives and is also evidenced in our worship. In John 4, Jesus explains true worshippers worship God in spirit and in truth. Even so, the question remains how do we do it? How do we make worship a lifestyle.
In 2 Chronicles 16:9, we read, “For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” If we want to be true worshippers, we have to give God our whole heart. He desires a devoted, unbreakable relationship ( a covenant) with us and it is much more than singing songs in church once or twice a week! He wants us to enjoy His presence. When we do, we can worship Him out of the overflow of our hearts.
In Daniel 3, we read the familiar story of Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego and the fiery furnace. Verses 17-18, give us another example of true worshippers, “If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” True worshippers remain committed to God, unconditionally, even in times of trouble when we don’t feel like it.
True believers don’t simply worship God in the blessing, but because we are in a covenant relationship with Him and He is worthy of our worship in good times and bad times. To make worship a lifestyle, we have to include God in every part of our lives (John 15:5). How? God invites us to join His plans every single day and we have to choose to obey out of our unconditional love for Him.
As we go through this week, let us focus our hearts on worshipping the LORD daily, serving Him with unconditional obedience, fully committed to Him because of our relationship with Him whatever comes our way!
