This March our church turns 18 years old. It seems like only yesterday when we held our first service on the second Sunday of March 2006 and yet our 18 year journey has held many lessons. This month, we’ll be exploring some of the greatest lessons I have learned along the journey of The Worship Center, in order to inspire you on your own unique life journey.
Life is full of small moments with big impacts! When we started our church, we didn’t have multiple campuses, bestselling books, or a large staff, we simply had a few people committed to an idea. The lesson for all of us here is – despise not small beginnings.
Often, as humans, when we are called, we hesitate in getting started because we don’t feel we have everything in order, we feel ill-equipped, or we don’t feel like we have enough for the journey. So, we wait when we should move forward, trusting God and appreciating the journey.
In Luke 16:10, God promises, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” Most often the big things come from small beginnings. We started with only a few people committed to an idea God had placed in our hearts. It seemed small, but we started with what we had, and remained faithful in the small things. We were faithful with what we had and in time, God entrusted us with more! We simply knew we had to start, we had to take the first step, we had to trust God and watch Him make big things happen.
As we celebrate our 18 years together doing the Lord’s work, let us be encouraged by Paul’s words to the Galatians (6:9-10), “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessings if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith” as we seek His guidance for the future.
Whatever it is that God has called you to do, get started! Don’t worry or obsess over what you don’t have, take the first step and trust God to lead you forward.
