As this month comes to a close, we find ourselves 18 years in and anticipate the best is yet to come. Often, after many years, leaders and people arrive at a point in life where they stop playing offense and begin to play defense – in other words, they stop dreaming!
We have to keep dreaming – playing offense toward expansion and growth instead of defense. We have to keep the dream alive – our season is not over! God gave the idea, the dream, over 18 years ago and we need to keep the dream alive. As it did then, the dream gives us hope for the future and encourages us to keep keeping on!
Yolanda Adams song Never Give Up, encourages us, “Keep the dream alive don't let it die, if something deep inside keeps inspiring you to try, don't stop And never give up; don't ever give up on you - Don't give up!”
Our church lives by its dreams. Those dreams of making a difference and sharing the gospel message with the world is built on our commitment of sharing God’s Word and making disciples as Jesus commanded in the Great Commission. It is a dream we can never give up!
Paul, in Philippians 3:12-14, tells us we must keep pressing on, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
May we, as we celebrate 18 years, keep the dream alive, learning the lessons from the journey, letting go of failures, celebrating successes, and looking to the future!
Keep dreaming! The best is yet to come!
