As we continue our study to “Believe” – let’s answer another question. Why is faith so important? In Hebrews 4:2, we read, “For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God.”
The Nation of Israel heard the Word of God, but it did not benefit them because they did not merge it with faith. They heard but they did not believe.
Faith is crucial to our lives as believers because it activates God’s promises. God’s promises are true, but not automatic. We have to appropriate them and activate them by our faith as God explains, “It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it” (Isaiah 55:11). Believing God’s Word is the first step but we when we speak and act His Word, we activate His promises and establish it will happen on the earth!
Luke 1:37 proclaims, “For no word from God will ever fail.” The Word of God has power, but we have to light the fuse! Genesis 1:26 tells us God created man in His image and likeness. The point, His likeness is not about appearance but about function. We are created to function like God, in faith and in power. When we function outside this environment in the absence of faith, fear and doubt fill the void, leaving us worried and powerless.
Everything God has for us is accessed by faith in Him including our salvation in Christ; access to His power, deliverance, and healing; His divine influence; His favor; true joy; and all His good and perfect gifts. May we function in God’s likeness, activating His promises in faith, and standing in His power and grace.
