Weekly Advantage: January 2023 #1: Health Greater Than You Had Before

As we welcome a New Year, let’s begin by praying this prayer for one another.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health
and that all may go well with you,
even as your soul is getting along well.”
3 John 1:2

Now, let’s consider for a few minutes the life God desires for us – one in which we have health greater than we’ve had before! In 1 John 4:4, we read “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” As believers, we have access to the “greater than” life because the One (God) who is within us is greater than the one (Satan) who is in the world.

The question is, “Do we claim it?” We go to church, sing and shout about God as our healer, yet our bodies are falling apart. We experience ill health and disease from poor lifestyle choices – overeating, smoking, substance abuse, and more – and we still don’t cooperate with God for our healing. Our health and the Will and Word of God are NOT separate issues.

God’s Word is filled with guidance for our health and wholeness beginning with our bodies which are the starting point for positive change. Our bodies affect our minds and moods, our physiology affects our psychology. In 1 Corinthians 6:13, we read that our bodies are meant for the Lord. It’s true, God owns our bodies and He expects us to manage His property (gifts on loan to us). It is the key to experiencing health greater than we’ve had before!

God wants us to have the “better than” life He planned and He is watching to see how well we manage the gifts He provided - our bodies and our health. May we begin 2023 anew with a focus on the abundant life God desires for His children!
