Last week, we discovered our bodies are meant for the Lord. In Psalm 100:3, we read, “Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” We see a similar statement in Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it…” The Word of God is clear, our bodies belong to the Lord, He created them, and they are simply on loan to us. We don’t own anything – God owns it all, loans it to us, and He expects us to manage it all well, including our bodies.
In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, we find, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” When we are believers, the Holy Spirit lives within us, making our bodies temples of the Spirit.
How are we then treating our bodies, the temples of the Holy Spirit? Are we vandalizing His temple by what we are putting in it, by our less than godly lifestyle, by not getting enough sleep or too little exercise? In this passage, we also see the command to honor God with our bodies. As believers, are we honoring God with our bodies?
If your answer to these questions is “less than” and falling short of God’s standard, consider what changes you can make this week. Positive changes doesn’t have to be a grand gesture but simply a small adjustment on which you can build to better honor God with your body. This week, I pray you rely on God’s strength and power in your lives to make positive changes toward achieving health and wholeness - better than you’ve had before!
